ACT 1: THE ARROGANCE OF POWER
Scene 1: The Coronation of King Adesina
[The kingdom is alive with celebration as King Adesina, a young, charismatic, and ambitious ruler, is crowned. Villagers gather, bowing and kneeling in reverence.]
Villagers: (Chanting) Kabiyeesi ooooooooo!!! (All villagers bow and kneel as the newly crowned King waves his cowtail, a traditional gesture of authority.)
Afobaje: (Addressing the crowd) My people, let us rejoice! After many years of searching for the rightful ruler of Ilu Kese, we have found our Olu Kesekese. Let us give thanks, for our village shall continue to prosper under his reign. May justice prevail, and may the gods bless our King and his people.
Oba Adesina: (With pride) This kingdom will bow to no one—not even the gods. I am the law, the power, and the divine!
Afobaje: (Foreshadowing) Kai, Kabiyesi, even the mightiest tree falls when it ignores the storm. (Meaning: Pride comes before a fall.)
Oba Adesina: (Laughs dismissively) We shall see.
[A cultural dance troupe enters, performing for the dignitaries and villagers. The King’s attention is drawn to a beautiful young woman leading the troupe.]
Oba Adesina: (Curious) Who is that young woman coordinating the dance?
Esho: Kabiyesi, she is the daughter of Oluwo.
Oba Adesina: (Commanding) Tell her to see me before dawn today.
[The dance troupe performs a captivating routine, and the King’s gaze remains fixed on the young woman. Her beauty, grace, and melodic voice captivate him. The troupe exits, and the curtain falls.]

Scene 2: The King’s Command
[The palace of Olu Kesekese of Ilu Kese is adorned with red beads, mat threads, and porcelain—traditional decorations befitting royalty. King Adesina sits on his throne, exuding authority.]
Ashabi: (Entering and bowing) Kabiyesi oooo.... Ki ade pe lori (May the King live long on the throne.) Esho informed me that I should see you before dawn today.
Oba Adesina: (Pretending ignorance) Ah, yes... Who is your father in this land?
Ashabi: Oluwo ti Ilu Kese, Kabiyesi.
Oba Adesina: (Commanding) Go and inform your father to prepare for my arrival tomorrow. I have decided to take you as my junior queen. The throne needs a young and beautiful woman, and I have chosen you. (To the guards) Escort her and ensure no one interferes.
Esho: Your lordship.
[Oba Adesina exits as the guards accompany Ashabi out of the palace.]
